I assume Ambika is referring to the African forest buffalo that did/does share an exhibit with red river hogs.
Almost 20 years ago, I'm fairly certain they had the largest subspecies, the cape buffalo. I don't know if it's a matter of semantics or if all of the subspecies were collectively known as cape buffalo then, or if they're all known as forest buffalo now. When I was there in 2012 and 2015, I didn't look at the signage, just assuming it was the cape subspecies, but the two are different. The cape buffalo is from southern Africa (hence "Cape), and its size is twice that of the forest buffalo. I don't know what sub species is there now or if I'm explaining it the right way, so here is a Wiki link about what I mean:
