Malayan tapirs in Europe

In Stuttgart, the young tapir Mashuri, born last year, died.

Wilhelma Zoologisch-Botanischer Garten Stuttgart on Instagram: "Freud und Leid liegen nahe beieinander. 1 Lisa-Marie Grimmer; 2-3 Sabine Tomas; 4 Harald Knitter #abschied #wilhelma #meinewilhelma #stuttgart #tapir #malayantapir #schabrackentapir #farewell"

A Male Malayan tapir was born at Zoo Leipzig on 17 September. Although the cub did drink regularly by its mother Laila, it did not seem to develop well and was not as stable and active as it should have been. This is why he received extra help, such as extra milk. Today, his condition deteriorated rapidly and it was decided to euthanise him.

Malayan tapir Laila at Zoo Leipzig will soon move to another zoo in Germany (my guess is Zoo Dortmund). After that, a new young pair of Malayan tapirs will move to Zoo Leipzig.

One-year-old Malayan tapir male Nuang has moved from Copenhagen Zoo to Zoo Leipzig. A female will also arrive soon from an English zoo. It is hoped that they will form a new breeding pair.
