Where did you see a linsang?
Completely unexpectedly, at San Diego Wild Animal Park in 1998: Banded Linsang at San Diego WAP, 1998 - ZooChat
Where did you see a linsang?
Believe he saw one at San Diego Safari Park about 20 years ago![]()
Prionodontidae is almost the mammal family I have seen the longest time ago without seeing it again since, but Dinomyidae has it beaten by two days..!
Mine would be Ziphiidae, by a very wide margin indeedthough not quite as wide as those two families are for you.
There's one more tied exclusively to that trip, with wild and captive sightings a few days later - Antilocapridae. I think the next after that is Petromuridae (2003), then Balaenopteridae (2007) and Nandiniidae (2008). All the others I've seen/seen again within the last eight years.
Whoops, forgot that I've seen Fossa as well. For me (*=seen in the wild):

There are not really any other families in European zoos for you are there? On that list of families I think I make it 105 total, of which 45 in the wild. Six wild-only, so the next new captive family I see will make the big 1-0-0. (if only I'd managed to see the Ringtail Possum at Hamerton when it was on-show..!).
But looking down the list other very high rankers for me are Cyclopedidae (silky anteaters), Aplodontiidae (Sewellel), Dinomyidae (Pacarana), Prionodontidae (Asian linsangs), and Odobenidae (Walrus). I'm not sure which would be my top pick.

I noticed you hadn't marked Rhinolophidae as seen. No horseshoe bats yet, or are they just not in your neck of the woods?
The pikas at Berlin? I thought they were gone now? He's missing a few other families present in European collections:
Ochotonidae
Rhinolophidae
Rhinopomatidae
Molossidae

My missing placental Orders are the ones for tenrecs and elephant shrews, which should both be "easy" if I went to Europe. I have a feeling I saw elephant shrews in the Grzimek House in 2004 but the ZTL dates don't match up, so it may just be wishful thinking.Cynocephalidae, which would give me the full set of placental mammal orders.
I've got four missing Carnivore families: linsangs, African Palm Civet, Walrus, and skunks. For what it's worth Prionodontidae is one of my top two - seeing a linsang would mean I had the full set of carnivoran families

Going by various of your previous claims you should have seen rather more than thatI'd read through the list again!
