Manchester Zoo Manchester zoo

I think it is a fair bit more relevant than the tangent you are taking this thread on...

Not really...a personal account is just that. I think people are reading far too much into this.

Is he probably that person? Manchester Zoo does have other employees.

So publicly accessible comments from well-respected members of the zoo community in response to the article (e.g. when shared via Zoo News Digest) do not reassure you that Manchester Zoo is forging ahead with its plans, and operating normally? I think the update on a year's worth of activity should help people feel the opposite of let down.
That facebook article doesnt address any if the isdues raised in the newspaper article.

The company accounts are 13 months overdue.
The company confirmation statement is 14 months overdue.
The company has twice been subject to striking off by Companies House (the second of which is currently suspended but still valid).
The company's registered address has been assigned to Companies House, which usually means that there is a dispute over the right to use the existing registered address.
Their planning consultants are reported to be taking action over unpaid bills and to be unable to contact the company's sole director.

This doesn't strike me as a company which is "operating normally".

Perhaps you could quote, or link to, these comments in response to the article?

I'm all up for a new zoo . I hope it all comes together i really do ! The only thing that confuses me would be on species choice if you haven't built the enclosures how do you choose the species and how do you know what species you can have before you build the enclosures and if you are a brand new venture why would existing zoos deal with you. I assume there isn't a species catalogue for new zoos

Existing zoos will be quite happy to deal with a new zoo in order to place surplus animals.

So in theory If i had the resources I could open a new zoo tomorrow and I assume there must be a database for surplus animals and pick whatever i wanted regardless

I don't know if there is an actual database of surplus animals, it would change daily. However, as @SHAVINGTONZOO says, various animal collections across the country and further a field are in contact helping each other out. With Manchester being surrounded quite closely by many others such as Chester, KSP, Blackpool, SLWP, YWP, there are plenty local options making transporting less stressful for our animal friends.

Not quite that simple I suspect, but if you had an enclosure suitable for lemurs you'd probably find something to fill it.

More likely to be some elderly/ bachelor group/ genetically over-represented Ring-tailed though rather than Aye-Aye! :D

Ah, whatever happened to the Manchester Zoo?
It is somewhat strange coming across this thread again, and I do remember when I first saw the concept for the Manchester Zoo. Indeed, I was rather impressed, as the conceptual artwork showed that the zoo was apparently very capable of becoming a new major zoo of the UK. However, the conceptual artwork released was seemingly the last of it as well - no details on exhibits, or any other concept artwork, as Bristol appears to be doing before it packs up for 2024.
From what I see, the to-be zoo's social media was fairly active in 2019-ish, though around 2020, progress starting slowing down. It would seem that they would reappear in 2021, but seemingly not again. As much as it would be nice to have a new large zoo in the UK, I would say that the project of the Manchester Zoo is somewhat dead at this point - even the zoo's website domain is no longer registered..
Though it would be interesting if they were to resurface this year..!

It’s still happening, they bred some good birds last year.

Does anybody know the latest news on this?
I was excited to hear about a new zoo but now I don’t really know anything lol

The latest issue of Cage & Aviary Bird carries an article about the breeding of Asian thrushes which mentions the zoo.
