Manor House Wildlife Park Manor House news

Four female Asiatic Black Bears will soon be arriving from France in June. Significant news for this relatively standard facility species wise - reported on their FB page.

A relatively standard facility species wise and not many species at that, but a zoo that stands out for the quality of their enclosures. If the zoo kept a larger collection of species I think it would be amongst the best in the UK, so it's great to hear they're getting bears.

Any idea if they are coming from a breeding facility or rescue centre

I don't know how recent the change was, but these days the zoo is called Manor Wildlife Park, not Manor House. It was previously known as Manor House.

This is really exciting stuff!

Last year I mentioned in the thread that the collection felt like it had stagnated, and I wish there was something to make me want to visit again. Shortly after it was then announced Anna will be returning to the helm and now it’s been announced BEARS are arriving!!

This is fantastic news and it makes me excited for this collections future again. Part of me really hopes they bring back the TV show for a new series!

The four new moon bears have arrived. Their names are Martha,Irene, Gigi and Coco. The park are not ruling out breeding in the future under the appropriate guidelines. Also, the bears will be able to access the tigers enclosure via two tunnels (obviously, when the tigers are absent ) and visa versa. The bears arrived through the charity Freedom for Bears.

Also, more animals are expected this summer particularly for the Tiger and Red Panda enclosures

When would the tigers be 'absent'?
If a 'moon' bear is actually an Asiatic Black rather than a Sun, then the single cub born at Wigham took a long time to re-home. They would need to be very cautious about breeding a species which is full to busting in sanctuaries in Asia.

Quick question. I was watching a video of the park and the latest map it showed that there’s a bat cave.
1) Is it new and if so is it open?
2) If it’s open does is it house live bats or fake ones?

To my knowledge what's labelled here isn't actually a bat cave, just a small tunnel that links to the path near the tiger exhibit. I'm not sure why it's signed as such on the map!
