Mappin Terraces

Hi guys,
I'm new here so please be gentle with me.

A couple of questions:

Why are the Mappin Terraces not used for mountain goats or similar species anymore?

Why did they fill in the sea lion pool and get rid; that was always my favourite part of London Zoo and seemed quite big and deep for enrichment purposes. The sound of the male "barking" was what got me excited on the way in and was an iconic feature of the day.

Thanks,

Welcome to Zoochat.

I think the herds of goats, sheep etc were abandoned as the upper levels of the Mappins became closed to the public as they were structurally unsafe- the reason it still remains closed now.

The Sealions departed mainly because they didn't fit with the 'Conservation' strategy the Zoo had adopted- if you look back through older posts you will find other Zoochatters- myself included- who similarly lament their loss for exactly the same reason you describe.
