Marbled Cats in Zoos

Yes I can see it too. I would say the visual difference between this cat and the other marbled cats is as great or greater than the difference between the two (now full species) clouded leopards.

Why zoos in Asia don't link together into breeding plans for rescued animals? Zoos in Europe send individuals of rescued local species like otters, raptors etc into breeding plans, instead of keeping them alone in some small local places which usually receive locally rare animals. In the era of facebook available even in most remote corners of the globe, it should be no problem to immediately exchange information.

Most likely I will be visiting Bangladesh in June this year for work. Does anybody know if the Marbled cats are still kept in Shitesh Babu Zoo or any other zoo in Bangladesh?

About three weeks ago a hobbyist photographer posted on Facebook a shot of them standing in front of the marbled cat exhibit at Intagar Zoo (India), so apparently it is still there. Unfortunately the exhibit is a mostly barren cement bunker with just one small den with straw.

To give an update regaring the marbled cats in the private collection in the UK: they are gone. Not only did the cats die, the whole park has been shut down.

Is the species incredibly difficult to keep alive in captivity, or is it that in many cases people acquired unhealthy individuals? It seems like flat-headed cat and bay cat also suffer the problems of not surviving past 3-5 years in captivity, though I may be wrong.
