March Flies ...

Not really a 'Zoo' creature ...

But can someone help me on the March Fly subject.
They're super common/persistent where I am, trying to figure out a plan to deal with this issue.

Lost count of the amount of times I've swatted one.
Or, been bitten by one.
Permanent, ongoing part of the day.

Got mozzie spray: it works. But not always wearing mozzie spray.

Thinkin bout getting a bucket/container with a lid, half-filling it with meat/fruit/water, then drilling entry-holes around the outter rim up top below the lid?

Basically what I see for sale *shrug* I could make that ...

What would be the best bait for March Flies specifically?
I'm guessing meat, but meat stinks. Any alternatives?

Thanks in advance

Get some mortein mate.

Yeah, got plenty of it.
Used plenty of it.
Prevention is better than the cure, right?
I'm in a rural area, so, never ending amount of mice/rats/snakes/flies/march flies.

Not that big of a deal, really.
Just constant.
What can I do to mitigate/prevent the March Flies issue?
Flies: not that bad, really. No mess in the area, nothing unusual to attract them. Fair 'nuff.
March Flies: in a league of their own. Not a massive bulk swarm or anything. Just pretty common someone jabs a needle in ya & a helicopter flies off.

There's gotta be some kind of prevention I could do, aside from bug spray ...

Australia - you're standing in it.

Yeah, I get it.
Not like I'm not used to flies/mozzie etc.
But March Flies are in a league of their own.
I live in a rural area.
So March Flies are constant part of the day.

There's gotta be a way of deterring/preventing them, without constantly spraying myself.

Poison/bait/trap(s)?
Chuck a bowl/bucket/pot/whatever somewhere with honey/cidar/fruit/meat in it, full of water so they drown? And/or poison it?

OK, it's been a week.

Caught a bunch of flies in the fly traps.
But no March Flies.

Gonna get some bait from/for a Petrol 'Really Pro Fly Trap'. See how that goes.

I've got rotten meat & cow sh*t for bait, flies go for it, no March Flies tho. Flies not that big of a deal tho.

'Just use mortein'
*nods*
Yeah, I get it.
But I don't want to invest in a regular supply of mortein. Mortein won't prevent the fu*kin things.

I mean there's gotta be a sure way to prevent/deal with March Flies. I mean from me googling it, it's pretty common problem for horses/livestock.

Not sure where I'm falling short.
Got the traps.
Not working on March Flies tho.
Bait? Cow sh*t & rotten meat no good? What is?

There's gotta be some kind of trap/bait I can set for em. It's like having a helicopter land on you, then stab you with a nail, then helicopter away. Sucks when you're distracted/busy doing something.

There's gotta be a reliable, regular preventative measure I could do for this.

Any ideas/suggestions/advice?
Thanks in advance

March Flies:
Fly relief fly trap
Maxforce granule fly bait
Colours: blue/black.
Apparently ...

OK.
So I've got fly traps set.
Gonna get some mini-basketballs, paint em black-blue & use them for bait.
Apparently march flies like the colours black/blue, and, heat, so set the traps up in the sun, I guess.

I'm not gonna pay a monthly bill for spray/bait/traps.
Painted mini basketballs for bait?
*shrug*
Fine.

If anyone can think of a better/wiser path, I'm all ears ...

OK.
'Bug Ball'.
Get a big inflatable ball, then ya inflate it, paint it black or blue, cover it in tacky glue/whatever so that flies are stuck on it once they land on the ball, then set it up out in the sun.

March/horse flies like dark colours, apparently, and heat. Their like mosquito's on steroids.

Dunno.
If anyone can think of a better solution, I'm all ears.

Currently working on making a big protein container/tub into a dedicated fly trap ...

OK.
I've got the green traps set.
I've made a big fly trap out of a big protein tub.
Bait: dead mice/rats, milk, eggs.

I'm collecting flys
OK, cool. I've lessened the amount of flys I gotta deal with. That's a win.

But my main concern is, Mach Flys
What can I do about Marc Flys & Cicadas?

Not like I haven't googled the sh*t out of this to see what my options are.
In the next month or two, I wanna have made home as fly/march fly/cicada/rat/mouse proof as possible.
This seems to be a never-ending job, just doing homework on this subject ...
I've got traps/baits bookmarked for my 'to-do-list'.

Any suggestions?
(Thanks in advance )
