Maruyama Zoo Maruyama Zoo - Sapporo

Does anyone here have info about the new orangutan enclosure being built in the zoo.The only thing I found is apparently the indoor area is gonna be 100 to 200 sq meter with natural plants and bedding.And something about adding fish into the enclosure.
 
World’s oldest Diana monkey dies:

World's oldest Diana monkey in captivity dies in Japan's Sapporo

The world's oldest Diana monkey in captivity named "Washington" has died at the age of 39 at a zoo in Sapporo on Japan's northernmost main island, officials said Saturday.

The male primate, born on Aug. 26, 1982, at an Oklahoma zoo in the United States, had sired a total of 13 offspring, contributing to the preservation of the endangered species.

The monkey was eating through Friday, but his death was confirmed the following day, according to Sapporo Maruyama Zoo, where he had lived since 1984.
 
Some sad news and happy news to announce:

The sad news is that on June 17th, they announced that their 1:0 Nile Hippo called "Don", passed away at the age of fifty-four years. The Zoo still has another hippo, his daughter, forty-eight-year-old "Zan".

The happy news is that nineteen-year-old Asian Elephant "Pearl" gave birth to a not-yet-gendered calf on August 19th.

So I decided to snoop around and find more footage of the upcoming orangutan enclosure and I was able to find an 8 minute news report on the construction of the upcoming orangutan enclosure. The indoor enclosure is around 8 meters tall. Based on the footage the simians choose to stay up in the display enclosure rather than go down. Unfortunately other than a water monitor (statue) there aren’t any other species in this exhibit.

Both FF Tomistoma died within 8 days from another. The zoo informed they cleaned out the pool and transferred the remaining 2 individuals into another exhibit/pool. Research into a possible connection between both deaths was being investigated....! Have you heard anything since?

If I remember from the historical past Maruyama Zoo in Sapporo has had a tradition with polar bears in Japan (I thought they also bred the species ...). Posters need reminding also that Sapporo is high up into Hokkaido and has a good climate for polar bear animal husbandry and management!

SOURCE: ZTL lists the current Maruyama Zoo holding as 0.2. Unsure whether this is valid or not (the side note is: bred at this location).

Unfortunately I couldn't find any official information after this announcement.
