Marwell did have lions (Asiatic) from 1978 to 2001, when the last one died. I believe it had a total of two pairs, including the pair from Jersey. The lions did not breed in the Park and it is only fairly recently the old lion house has been swept away. The zoo is considering having lions again in the near future, but this time they will be the African kind.
I seem to remember that there was something odd about the last of the Marwell lions. Was it that they were hybrids, or one was Asiatic and the other generic, or am I remembering that incorrectly?
