The dinosaurs left a few days ago!
They were giving Dinosaur maps out still as they have nothing else to give and still have lots left.
The Servals are called 'Kenya' (M-12 years old) & 'Tanzi' (F-11 years old).
The Northern Cheetah males are 'Jabal' & 'Tano' (not Tawo as someone reported earlier in the thread), both are under 2 years old.
Yes Mei Mei female has arrived from Welsh Mountain,Julius male has departed to Wild Acres.Male Sulawesi Macaque Baik has died,Marwell have not bred Macaques for some time.

It is believed the young okapi died due to a gastro intestinal infection.It my have passed faeces before it's gut flora had been established.

Work has now begun on Wild Explorers 
The 2 black swans on the pond at front of zoo have now left to go to Child Beale this area once had the swans lots of waterfowl and a squirrel monkey island will now just be left as a wildlife pond,As has been said work has at last started on the new Rhino zebra oryx housing to be finished by May/June next year company from the Isle of Wight will build it,dont think Marwell will go out of Okapi as it not long since a pair came in,they have 4/5 female macaques and work has just finished upgrading the house.
It is only a small thing but once again it reflects a retraction of the species the park actually keeps, particularly as it was seen immediately on entry.

A story that once again makes me wonder about the people who run Marwell. The first exhibit that visitors see will have nothing on view.
How much money would it have cost to roof over that space, install some nesting platforms, put a heated shelter at the back and use the area for a flock of Scarlet Ibis?
I think we can all agree that the first exhibit you see on entering any zoo is so very important, it gives the first impression, especially important for those visiting a zoo for the first time.
Personally I like the zoos which give you a glimpse of what is to be seen when they have one or two exhibits on route to the entrance - as long as they are good of course - and not just an empty enclosure!!
A very sad end, to what was a success story with this species, a first UK breeding etc.. But it is a great shame the zoo never really appreciated this species there.

I belive this was a species that Mr.Knowles always wanted at the park,and when he was forced out,the prescent management just wanted rid of them so nothing really was done with them. Their enclosure over the years had held various animals and was originaly built to house Maned wolfs back in the 70,s.

A zoo that could hold Takin and has bred Takin is a zoo that, availability of stock permitting, should keep Takin. I try to have faith in Marwell's management, but to not value such a rare and charismatic species (the possible source of the golden fleece, for heavens' sake) is nothing less than dispiriting.
I presume the female will relocate to Highland Wildlife Park!
