just heard on a lovely photographer's facebook page that Kanika the Amur Leopard is going to California in the near future! Will be very sad to see her go!
Has anyone heard if there's any news on the tigers falling pregnant yet?
How long have the tigers been together?

1.1 Crowned Lemurs have joined the collection. A male from Twycross and the female from Obterre Zoo in France
A group of 14 Scimitar Horned Oryx also left Marwell for a breeding centre in Abu Dhabi during December. They will be part of a re-introduction program with there eventual offspring being returned to the wild

Visited today, Nisha beat me to the Crowned Lemur news! They are now in the old Ring tailed enclosure, with the Ring taileds moving to the last enclosure on the lemur walkway, as it were. Can't remember what was there before, was it empty?
Other notes:
Lesser Kudu are due to arrive at somepoint, in first enclosure after Into Africa. Its currently being worked on.
Lowland Anoa are offshow however a sign says they will be returning soon.
Roti Island Snake-necked Turtle will be replacing the dwarf crocodiles (which have moved collections) sometime this year too.
Quite a few empty enclosures in the tropical house but lots of signs saying new residents coming soon!
Had my first experience of Wild Explorers, overall I liked it and can see its a big improvement on housing for all species. However was disappointed with the indoor viewing, especially for the rhinos which seemed very limited considering they were all indoors today.

I wonder if he reason for the large amount of empty enclosure in the Tropical World is because of the new, larger tropical being built some time later this year. Would make sence.

Yes it is confirmed that all 4 tiger cubs that were born sadly died shortly afterwards, they were born 10 days ago.
Amur Leopard cub is still at the collection, but off display - if you listen while outside the tropical house, you can hear her calling.
Snow leopards are not being put back together this season
But the amur leopards are being put back together asap.

Male or female rhino?
A new young female,it will be a while before the male is old enough to breed,Last year Marwell bred no hoofstock of any species at all,how times have changed.
As others have stated, it will be a youngish female.
two others will follow on later in the year which will bring the total to six by the end of the year.
I have also seen plans for a new enclosure for an existing carnivore and some remedial works have already been carried out.

we went the other day but had no idea this sad incident had happened.. Just out of interest, does anyone know when work on the new tropical house will begin and when the proposed opening will be? Also i wonder what will follow this in the development plan..

It had been empty for a long while (at least 18months) - the signage suggests it had Gentle Aloatran Lemurs at some point in the past.
There is now an Anoa out opposite the Giant Anteater enclosure.JamesB said:

Ah ok, thanks for the clarification. In terms of Anoa, I meant in the Life in the Trees exhibit.
As for the new carnivore enclosure, I'm wondering if it could do with tigers, as on some fundraising publicity I was looking at on Friday it noted that a certain amount could fund a new tiger house, not sure if that was just an example or something in the works?

It is NOT another merekat enclosure!

remedial works started but have had to be stopped due to the weather conditions. TPO's will need to be removed and you just don't remove them, but the work carried out was within the TPO remit.
