Marwell Wildlife Marwell Zoo News 2021

All emotion aside, it would seem there could be money to be made selling off dead stock for anatomical/taxidermy purposes. Maybe that does actually happen?

Makes me wonder if that would be a viable source of Rhino horn/elephant ivory? I don't agree with it, but if the harvested remains of captive animals reduced poaching of wild populations (for the benefit of ****** who believe in folk medicine), then I'm all for it.

That suggestion makes little sense - there are not enough animals in zoos dying of natural causes / end of life to sustain any form of demand and surely efforts should be put into ending poaching and the myths that sit behind folk medicine vs pandering to it / breeding animals who will end up in it. The conservation implications of breeding for the ivory trade even incidentally are hard to fathom. Zoos a source of ivory? How about fur and bushmeat then? All ok if it helps reduce wild depopulation. Perhaps zoos could have a shoot your own lunch day.
