new Siamang exhibit.

This is a huge improvement on the old cage. Very tall netted enclosure with a central tall concrete 'tree' with Lianas hanging off it. The indoor area is faced with a rather ugly concrete wall though which is a pity. To my great delight the horrible original Siamang cage is in the process of being demolished.

There are still a couple of Roan at Marwell- offshow near the desert gazelle house.

Also another female giraffe has been born to Mary. This will be the last of Christophers young.

I believe the current male and one female are supposedly pure Rothschilds- but to me the whole group all looked extremely similar to each other.

The Roan group have been held in this location for a couple of years now. I didn't realise their enclosure was offshow, but then I didn't see any last time I was there which probably explains it.

i remeber they had a group of roan up there on-show once but this was a few years back, anyone remeber? and thanks johnstoni for anoa info

Theres a lot of building work for the new restaurant going on around that area. I could only see the Roan when they were outside in their hardstanding. I also saw the Roan at Whipsnade next day- seem to be two females with two younger ones- no male?

where are the arabian oryx housed, it is still that small courtyard by the hippo house?

The Roan antelopes' hardstanding was moved to the other side to make room for the building works. Hopefully when the Restuarant is complete they will be easier to see - I think they plan to extend the short path on the far side of the Desert house to make viewing easier.

the anoa were moved near the Peccaries when the new Gibbon enclosure was being built. There were a few moves around this time:

Vicunga from new Gibboon area to now Anteater area. (was housing A Oryx)

A Oryx from now anteater area to small house behind S-Horned Oryx, near tigers (was housing Anoa)

Anoa to spare area near peccaries.

I hope that makes sense!!

I think the A Oryx are still near the S-Horned Oryx/tigers - but can be hard to see sometimes.

well hopefully when the new african exhibit opens the animals will move to thier right places

I saw Vicuna in the next hardstanding to the Arabian Oryx at the above location behind Scimitar Oryx sheds.
