I've just booked a holiday in the New Forest and was hopimg to take in Marwell Zoo. Just checked out the prices, it's a bit steep there isn't it? Also the family Ticket, doesn't work out any cheaper than buying individual tickets. So bearing in mind i have 3 children who aren't that interested in Zoo's (Probably because i keep dragging them to them.) Is £62 value for money at this zoo?

I wouldn't pay that for Paignton, so how does it compare to Paignton?

In my personal opinion marwell zoo is a great zoo but I do think £62 is a little steep. I got in free as I have a years pass to twycross. In conclusion a great zoo but think paignton is slightly better so hope this helps. :)

£62 is a lot of money but i do think this zoo is worth every penny. if you love antlepoes and zebras this is the zoo for you. i have a pass to so have never really looked at the price before

Marwell is a truly excellent zoo, but maybe I'm just biased.

But no, it is a fantastic example of what a zoo should be, and definately worth the money.

Marwell is my local zoo and I have family near Paignton. I tend to visit both each year. Both are quite different so it depends on what you look for in a zoo.

Marwell seems to have more focus on the animals and less on the visitor then Paignton. Despite being larger there seems to be less to see and do at Marwell but the enclosures are typically bigger and better.

Marwell doesn't have a lot of what could be described of the big draw animals. For example, it doesn't have elephants, lions, bears or great apes and the range of monkeys are quite small. There are tigers, rhinos, giraffes and zebras. It tends to specialise in endangered hoofstock and big cats. As you might expect there is quite a lot of walking around big paddocks. Depending on the age of your children this might be something to consider.

Out of the two I prefer Marwell. The range of animals is interesting as many of the species are not kept in many zoos and they have a good breeding record.

As I said earlier I think it comes down to what you want from a zoo. If it sounds like the sort of thing you would enjoy I would recommend it.

As far as 'entertainment' to keep your children happy , Marwell has a free land-train with stops at various points around the park , also a railway which costs £2 per person for a round trip along the bottom of the park . There are a number of good play areas . The Encounter Village area has walk-through exhibits for wallaby , kookaburra , golden lion tamarin , as well as meet an animal sessions .
