Marwell Wildlife Marwell Zoological Park 2023

People were asking about the Caracara Exhibit, so hopefully these images will be appreciated.

Cacti !!
Indeed looks very nice. Though I will say in regards to the house -
I find it a bit strange that the house is still much in its original form - it was initially built for a ground-dwelling species [i.e. ocelots] but would it not make sense to install a window flap as well?
But still, very nice all around.

Penguins off show and playground behind closed... Could this be in preparation for a new batch of Penguins and/or other species to join this area?

And as mentioned previously by other - anyone have news on Bush Dog and thriving through nature? Trying to plan a visit where I can see these and Penguins when they return!

A video has also been posted detailing archtectural advancements the exhibit has undertaken over the past few months.
The sketch seems to imply the exhibit will be set up in a diorama style, which for small animals is a bit strange for me .. but we will have to see.
Two new species have also been confirmed by Marwell themselves - The Egyptian Uromastyx [Uromastyx aegyptia], and the Ocellated Skink [Chalcides ocellatus]. According to ZTL, not many UK zoos have either at current, so their additions could well be welcome.

Can you guess which species will be returning to Marwell soon?

Here’s a hint:

My tail is long, my whiskers white,
My eyes are small but very bright,
I like to climb and chew bamboo,
I’m coming soon, can you guess who?

Copied from Facebook. Some form of lemur or Red Panda?

:wishful:Bamboo lemur??:wishful: :D
[I agree it's probably a red panda, but bamboo lemur would also be very nice]

I looked at their facebook page and I think this might be referring to something other than red pandas. The close up picture shows shaggy black and white fur, so I think this might be another of the new species that okapis mentions.

B&W Ruffed Lemur?

I'm still sticking witblh Tashi the red panda. Looking at the picture the left back paw is white. Tashi has a white back left paw. This could be what is throwing people off the scent of red pandas.

The post mentions that the species is 'returning' - so I doubt it's a species Marwell hasn't had before.

The June Cretney post.
Talks about how development of Thriving Through Nature has been progressing, and includes the first still picture of the exhibit interior.

It goes over Tashi's arrival, a new playground at Fur, Feathers and Scales, Glow Marwell 2, and how they have been recommended by the European Breeding Co-ordinator 10 new humboldt penguins.

..And there isn't much in regards to new species unfortunately, but Cretney assures that things will be arriving over the next few months.

Reading between the lines it sounds to me like Thriving Through Nature might be delayed.

At the beginning of the year it was advertised as coming this summer. Saying things will be arriving over the next few months makes it sound as if it won't be ready until October or November.

The penguin announcement is great news though.
