I believe that Pink backed pelicans were also exhibited in the Watering Hole exhibit pool during the summer months and over wintered in the old hippo house. Is that accurate? I remember seeing a pelican species exhibited in the rhino exhibit when I was younger.
Yes, you are correct. Sometimes keepers would even let kids help them feed the pelicans by tossing fish from the watering hole viewing pavilion
 
I saw Boat-tailed Grackles (Quiscalus major) off-exhibit behind the old bird kiosks in summer 1997. There was a bizarre mix of birds in those kiosks in the late 90s - Broad-billed Roller was the most exciting to me. I also vaguely remember a keeper telling me that five Lilac-breasted Rollers were kept off-exhibit in either the late 80s or early 90s, but don't quote me on that.
