The Maryland Zoo in Baltimore Maryland Zoo News 2021

Visited the Zoo today. The only update I have is Polar Bear Watch has been renamed Northern Passage. They're still working on adding additional signage and updating some way finding signs and maps. The brown bears are currently hibernating, so only the bald eagle is on exhibit. I'd be really curious to see what new species they'll exhibit in some renovated spaces (the Northern porcupine in one for sure) and to see if they utilize the side hill for another species. It'll be exciting to see what they add to a former polar themed area.

End of an era, so sad. Afaik there were originally supposed to be two porcupine exhibits, one in the old eagle and one in the old raven exhibit. Hopefully some more species come soon, because a bald eagle with physiological damage and a pair of sleepy porcupines isn’t overly exciting for an entire exhibit during half the year.

The zoo was finally able to replace the old diesel shuttles with three smaller electric shuttles. They'll continue using the path through the main valley, instead of the road the big shuttles used to take. Since their re-opening the zoo has had golf carts that guests could request for transport, but they could only hold 1-3 people and couldn't take wheelchairs, strollers, etc. These ones fit 11-14 passengers and are ADA compliant.
