- The cave exhibit is open again after a long construction period, many of the exhibits are still very similar on the outside to before the renovation.

The way it was constructed, there isn't much that can be done without blasting the whole place, which would also require $$$$$$. Any little thing done takes way longer than you'd think because the whole place is molded concrete.

Exactly. That giant cement block would need BIG checks to be changed too much. It’s a nice renovation though. Not too much was done visibly, but the exhibits all appear well cleaned and refurbished.

- There is currently construction taking place in the Giraffe barn, and while the two remaining girls were outside I haven’t seen Caesar on any of my last three visits.

- The old eagle exhibit (first raven, then eagle, now empty) has been deconstructed in preparation for the North American Porcupine exhibit.

Caesar is still at the Zoo. He rotates in and out like the girls so you must keep missing him.

The former snowy owl, then raven exhibit is being deconstructed now. The former raven exhibit, then bald eagle exhibit is still standing, but probably won't be for much longer.

Does this mean that BALTIMORE RAVENS will no longer be exhibited at the zoo? They’re down to one porcupine now anyway; so why remove ravens too? Such an exodus from the area recently: Arctic fox, polar bears, and now ravens.

The ravens are ambassadors.

Article about the Zoo placing the birds off exhibit due to the avian flu.

Penguins, flamingos among the birds taken off-exhibit at the Maryland Zoo over avian flu fears

The article also teases a "'blockbuster new experience” for May through November. More details are to be released next month."

I wonder if it'll be one of those traveling dinosaur exhibits or a lorikeet feeding station. The feeding station the Zoo did in the early 2000's (2004 I think?) on the site of the former Hippo House, now Penguin Coast. It was a bit of a disaster according to keepers at the time. The exhibit was plagued with rats eating all the dropped food and killed/ injured birds from being stepped on from unaware guests.

Now would not be the ideal time to get into the feeding aviary game…

Renovation of the Zoo's historic Crane Barn (previously Camel House) is in progress. (Don't read too much into this in terms of this meaning new exhibits or animals - the Zoo has been renovating many of its older buildings for historical preservation using the same company, Azola, and there are no immediate plans for the renovated structure to be anything other than what it was before - bird holding).
