Meerkat collections

Hiya, Im am doing a student project on meerkats and i wasd just wondering if anyone knew where the largest collection of meerkats was in the uk.
 
According to ISIS, Zoological Society of London, with 18, but I know there are tons of private collections in the UK.
 
My local zoo / park, Knowsley has a good number in two seperate exibits, possible guesstimate of about 30 or so in total. It is the largest collection I have seen.

Its quite an interesting set up at Knowsley. I believe the larger group is a none breeding single sex group, whilst the smaller group is the breeding one (its possibly other way round, been a while since i was there). As Pootle said its the largest ive seen in the UK.

I always thought Combe Martin had a vast enclosure with a very large group, but they don't list on ISIS.

Hi,

Yes I believe you are right about this, I too think the smaller group are the breeding ones. They have a small wooden shed as their indoor house and it is particularly neat and tidy as they even have net curtains fitted! - nice touch.

I am visiting tomorrow and will ask if anyone is around and confirm either way next week.

Jersey now only has 2 on display and they are two new specimens. Not sure what happened to the other 13 but I think they are going to try to breed the two new ones and start up a whole new group, as they were having problems with the old ones. They are also now mixed with the pair of Yellow Mongoose.
 
At Knowsley last Saturday and the Meercats have bred again, at least 4 little chaps/chapess's rooting around. I have never seen Meercats so young, no stripes, just all of them a plain beige colour.
 
West Midlands Safari Park have also jumped on the bandwagon with a new Meercat exhibit in their African Village area near to the new Lemur Woods exhibit too - they have quite a few but I don't think it's up at the 20 mark!
Nice layout actually with plenty of places to observe!

Both are breeding groups.
