The Atretochoana eiselti is the world's largest known caecilian (over thirty inches) and the largest known tetrapod to lack lungs.

It was discovered while draining part of the Madeira River in Brazil as part of a hydroelectric dam project which could gravely affect this species that is thought to be aquatic.

Reports that this new caecilian is a kind of snake are a phallusy ;)
