Speartooth Shark have not been at SEALIFE Melbourne since 2023 and the renovation of the oceanarium. Since then the species has been sighted at SEALIFE Sydney but I am unsure if they are still there.
The funny part is they haven’t expunged them completely, they’re still mentioned on one page about “Junior Shark Explorers” or some such. But yeah, what you say is similar to what I’ve found, so I think it’s safe to say they’re gone. The last mention I found online of the last surviving male was from January of this year. So it seems that perhaps it was sometime around then (given it's been radio silence essentially since; and they've had the time to remove them from the website).
Yeah, I had heard the same, and there were some mentions of them on socials at Sydney in ‘23 - then silence again since. Someone on here (further back in this thread) had thought they saw them again at Melbourne in 2024, like they’d been moved back. That could be a case of mistaken identity. I would love to know what happened after Sydney, if they’re still there, etc, but no one in their staff has been responsive to me either.Speartooth Shark have not been at SEALIFE Melbourne since 2023 and the renovation of the oceanarium. Yeah, I think you’d said that before, but thanks for following up again! I would love for somebody local to maybe try to reach out to Sydney, or if anyone has been there recently, but maybe that’s more of a convo for their thread. The Speartooth was definitely still in Sydney mid-2023, as I saw it there on my visit. Not sure of its current whereabouts...
