Melbourne Zoo Melbournes New Elephants.....

you wouldnt even need every zoo to have one of these would you? im not saying theres a great deal of education or conservation in melbournes current range of cages, BUT duplication of this facility behind the scenes is something which should be happening way more often.
thats why i liked the idea of Mogo and that zoo in New Zealand or even Alma etc becoming smaller holders of exotics. we need more individuals of fewer species, of course, and as long as theyre in a managed program id be happy if they were either behind the scenes at any one of our major zoos OR on display in any one of our smaller zoos, as with Symbion and Red Pandas or Alma and Lemurs.
god, i need a smoke now

yeh yeh. its a filthy habit and im wasting alot of money which i could be spending on jaguar conservation lol.
from elephants to jaguars, to regional planning, indian rhinos and now winny blues.
we need an innocent new member to pick on. ok, i think my brain is now dead and i will now call it a night before i start to lose hand/eye coordination and start spelling like Zoo_Boy;)
have a good week every one.

nah was always peter styvesant classic.... (but i won't think about that)

goodnight kids - wish i didn't have a looming deadline and all nighter ahead of me..

saw the elephants having a training session with their keepers. they are remarkably intellegent and well behaved. its especially sweet to see how well mek kapah gets along with the other girls. she would line up alongside the other girls so the keepers could take a photograph. she responds to the same thai commands as the other girls. the keepers got them to suck water in their trunks and take it over to the front of exhibit and spray it into the air.

kapah and the other girls also happily let their keepers ride them!

so glad that kpah's finally got a family. she is a very sweet elephant.

They talk to Kapah and Bong Su in Malay, The teengaer Dokkon loves to hang around Mek Kaph, but keepers communicate to Dokkon, Kulab and Num-oi in Thai. Aprently the keepers said it is good because there might be a mix up with commands.

I was just flicking through austar and stopped on animal planet to read what the show was about and it said it was about bringing three elephants to australia from thailand for a breeding program. But i didn't see because it had finished and i'm really annoyed.
So i was wondering if anyone else was fooled by daylight savings and got up earlier then they should have and maybe watched this and can tell me about it.

Animal Allies
Follow the progress of three orphaned baby Asian elephants being taken to Australia by jumbo jet to take part in a new breeding programme. Meanwhile, in South Africa a cheetah must be darted to determine whether its cancer has returned.

just searched austar tv guide

When
I forgot to mention that it is called animal allies and we don't have the austar guide anymore for april because we lost it.

Please tell me about the show i live in Melbourne but i don't have animal planet.

could it have been malaysia and not thailand?

sounds like perth zoos import back in the early 90's to me.....

It could have been malaysia 'cos i just assumed thailand because of the recent elephants. Sorry guys

It's a really good show, it's all about zoo's and rescue centers. I saw one episode about bringing pingping and Kanook to seaworld. (sorry about the spelling of their names.)

Really elephants in seaworld?! Australia or America?

It's not just elephants. PingPing and Kanook are the Queensland Polar bears.
