31 reactions | Exciting news! On Sunday, October 6th, our tamandua pair, Mom “Winnie” and Dad “Mr. Wendel,” welcomed their newest baby! We haven’t named the little one yet, as we’re still waiting to learn the gender. Winnie, an experienced mom, is currently getting settled with the baby, while Mr. Wendel is off exhibit for now to give them space. Tamanduas, like Winnie, are nocturnal and come from Central & South America. Babies cling to their mom’s back for around 6 months and start eating solid food within 2-3 months. Their long claws and prehensile tail make them amazing climbers, and their long tongues are perfect for slurping up insects! Winnie and Mr. Wendel are part of the Species Survival Plan, helping ensure the future of tamanduas! Stay tuned for more updates on this sweet family.
