Miller Zoo Miller Zoo: Species list, review and tips July 2025

Zoo adventures

Well-Known Member
I visited the Miller Zoo on July 9, 2025. I will be creating a review, a species list, and some tips for this zoo. It is around 3 and a half hours from Montreal and less than an hour from the city of Quebec. I hope that this guide will help you later in your future visit. I started with the Reserve since our car was already parked over there. We went to the following presentation: Kodiak bear, lions, grey wolf(Athena and Croc-blanc), the black and white lemurs, the Malayan Tapir and finally the moose.

Tips
  • There aren't any washrooms, only portable toilets.
  • There aren't any drinking machines, but you can buy a bottle of water or drinks from vending machine. It is better to at least bring 2 L of water for the entire trip.
  • The roads in the zoo are all gravel roads, so it is not really accessible
  • Be prepared that your shoes will be dirty after the trip.
  • Each presentation is around 20-25 minutes
  • The Malayan tapir and the giant anteater are mostly active when it is 4pm.

Review for the Miller Zoo
Sorry for the late review. I will try to post the other review for the main zoo. Also a reply to Smaggledaggle's identification request about the marmot. I can confirm it is a groundhog(Marmota monax)

The Miller Zoo is separated into 2 different locations. You can take the little bus ride(around 2-3 minutes) to go to the main zoo. It depends on which animal and presentations you want to see first but I recommend going to the Reserve first to avoid large crowds. I will try to upload my photos in the media, but I encountered problems on my computer.

The Reserve

Review: The Reserve has many new and large exhibits and it is really beautiful to see such natural exhibits. The bad thing is that some exhibits are one-way, so you have to walk up. I enjoyed these exhibits but you can't see the animals since they are hiding in the deep woods. I recommend going to the snack hours to get a better view of them. The Reserve is currently based on North American animals but with the equid and lemur exhibit being built. I expect exotic animals to have larger exhibits over at the Reserve.

The entrance(The fake tree design looks creepy but beautiful at the same time)

You can either buy your tickets there or online. They will give you the wristband and you can freely go between the two areas

The entire fence line is how long the moose exhibit(90% of the exhibit are just dense forest)

Here is the farm area, it is pretty small and basic. It is a series of habitats separated for different species.

The white tailed deer and European Fallow deer exhibit is even larger, with 2 separate water sources and again, 80% of forests
Here is a photo of the backside of the deer exhibit.

Here is the construction of the equid exhibit. In the morning, they were finishing the fence post and by the end of the day, the fence are up. I expect the exhibit to open by the end of summer.

Review for the Miller Zoo(Main part)
The main part of the zoo has some of the older generic enclosures and some are newer. I did not take a picture of the entrance but there are 3 food trucks all day long, a gift shop and an area to buy your tickets. There is also a little water park.

As you enter, you will see two separate Malayan tapir exhibits on your right and on your left.

If someone is visiting this zoo in the future, you might want to see this Goffin Cockatoo. This bird can say “Allo” when someone walks past it. (The white bird). This cockatoo is quite funny, sometimes he doesn't want to say Allo and he ignores you.

Most of the time, the zoo keepers will enter the animal exhibits when it is possible, for example, the grey wolves called Athena and Croc Blanc, the African Lions(Lexie and Simbad, the Moose and the Malayan Tapir. It is quite amazing to see the keepers interact with the animals while explaining them.

Example of a generic enclosure(This one is for the raccoon) There is another raccoon exhibit that is mixed with foxes but it is more natural with more treesupload_2025-8-1_20-17-3.jpeg

Example of a sign. I love how the zoo gives a description of its animals in the majority of the exhibits. It lets visitors know what they are seeing and know their names.

Summary

I really loved my visit to the Miller Zoo and I saw many lifers that I would not have the chance to see. The zoo is starting to gradually upgrade its exhibits and make new ones at the Reserve. I would definitely recommend this zoo if you want to see the following species in my species list, if you live near it or if you want to explore more zoos like me. I think I will be coming back to this zoo after a few years. I also want to say that the zoo has great signage explaining their animals' backstory, when they were rescued and what their characteristics are.

Out of their 88 species, a total of 20 species that I saw were a lifer(Southern Tamandua, black lemur, White Nosed Coati, Caracal and Eurasian lynx were lifers but I sadly did not see them)

Lifers
Southern Cassowary
Catalina Macaw
African Leopard
Kodiak Bear
Hamadryas Baboon
Asian Small Clawed otter
Red-faced Spider Monkey
Black Capped Squirrel Monkey
Common Squirrel Monkey
Giant Anteater
Malayan Tapir
Domestic Water Buffalo
Chapman’s Zebra
Goffin’s Macaw
Serval
South American Coati
Black and White ruffed lemur
Blue Crane
Brown Lemur
Scimitar Oryx

Tips that you need to remember: There is no potable water on site, either you buy or you bring your own water(2-3 L, depending on how many people and if you drink a lot)

Thank you for following on my journey.
