Milwaukee County Zoo Milwaukee County Zoo news 2016

I have seen 2 Asiatic black bears in Capital of Texas Zoo (Austin) in July. Virginia's Richmond Zoo is also supposed to have them, as I believe Roger Williams Zoo in Rhode Island

Those are all correct. A drive-through "safari park" (the name escapes me) in Texas also had one, but it has passed away now. There are some in the private sector and other roadside zoos, I'd imagine.

Edit: Lions, Tigers, and Bears in California has at least one too, and there's at least one roadside place (I think California or Nevada) that I know for sure has one.

off topic. but I would move the red panda to the old tapir yard and move the meerkats to the red panda exhibit. And do you have the sloth exhibit pics yet?

Add my thanks for the new sloth photos. The repurpose is a lot more effective than I imagined.

Yes, I believe the Metro Richmond Zoo still has two Asiatic black bears. The two bears at the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk are actually on loan from the Metro Richmond Zoo.

That is correct, I saw both of them (on site at Metro Richmond) Saturday.

Has the latest bonobo baby (born this year to Claudine) been sexed/named yet?

Also, I have the group as 23 individuals at the moment? Are the following up to date?

Males = Brian, Murph, Makanza, Ricky, Zuri, K2, Pabu, Claudine's baby (?)

Females = Laura, Zomi, Claudine, Faith, Deidre, Tamia, Elikia, Nadine, Noki-Noki, Noelle, Oona, Hanna, Nora-Jan, Lola, Kitoko

Claudine's baby is a male and has been named Qasai. I don't know who the father is. In fact, I don't know the father of any of the seven babies born between 2013 and 2016. Do you? You have all the others correct for a total of 23 bonobos.

I'm sort of going into this blind, so I'm not too sure myself :') I know all of the bonobos in Japan and Europe, but am trying to find out more about the US population and this was part of it, sorry. Thanks for the info though!!!

How many bonobos are there in Japan?

Updates from my visit today

A baby Japanese Macaque was recently born and is on exhibit.

When I entered big cat country I noticed something strange. The caracal exhibit was empty. I then noticed The removel Of signage And a sign saying animals are outside today. This most likely means Cammie The caracal Is no longer at the zoo and this will once again be used as a indoor cheetah exhibit.

The black bear exhibit is looking pretty nice so far A lot of trees have been added both short and tall

Lastly I learned more about the primate renovations. The madrill habitat will be completely renewed for the siamangs as the madrills and colobus will Rotate the Current outdoor Siamng habitat.

That's great news. I'd forgotten Milwaukee was even breeding tigers - it's great to hear that the species receiving a nice boost though.
