Milwaukee County Zoo Milwaukee County Zoo news 2018

Is the land viewing for the otters better in person? That area looks a little disappointing, although I'm certainly glad they have access to grass.

The new baby giraffe has officially been named, her name is Maya. Also it they let the giraffe mothers and their children out in the yard today, and everyone seems to be getting along.

Also in baby news, we have a new baby harbor seal.

I’m not sure what’s going on with the new outdoor exhibit for colobus, etc. they appear to be done with the enclosure but still no animals outside. Hopefully that’ll be open soon. The gorillas are also still off exhibit with no updates on what’s going on with them. Hopefully we’ll hear good news soon.

No the harbor seals by the polar bear. It’s was born yesterday and it’s brother Titan has been playing rough with the new pup. They’ve already seperated him once, and it’s looking like the may have to do it again.

Milwaukee County Zoo on Instagram: “Need a reason to smile for #nationalsmileday? A harbor seal pup was born yesterday (5/30) to Sydney and Ringo! The pup is doing well, stay…”
Thanks. I knew that Mango the harbor seal was pregnant at Ocean's of Fun. I looked it up and that's only been since February.

Wait, does Oceans of Fun have seals and sea lions?

Noted. I'll know for sure when I see it in person, I suppose. I can't imagine I'll make it up to Milwaukee any time soon but I'd damn love to make the trip.
Yes. Some of them go to Hersheypark in Pennsylvania for the summer and return to Milwaukee in the fall
Baby on Board!

It appears that the black bear that was moved due to arthritis has either died or has been move to a new location. The sign for black bear is no longer in the tiger circle area.

Also it appears that they’ve separated triton from Mom and the new born. So you’ll only see one or the other until the baby is big enough.

It appears gorilla Shalia has not adopted Zahra. She will be moved to a new facility to be announced later. Could also be better for Zahra to be accepted into a new full family group instead of going through the throws of establishing a new family group. Sulaiman will probably be better of for it too. The SSP will probably look for a other females with young sons who can form a bond with him before they reach maturity when formulating the new group. Or Shalia and Sulaiman will be moved out together to join the right group too and new gorillas be brought in to replace the whole group. Who knows.

Quick update:
The outside exhibit for the outdoor exhibit for the colobus appears to be complete, just some cosmetic work for the guests. Talked with an ambassador and they are hoping to get them out there soon, just got to them using the shoot.

As for the silverbacks, it looks like things are still being worked out. I did see them outside today as I rode in the train past them. Hopefully a new family order can be reached soon.

It appears that they moved the black bear back to shared exhibit.
