Milwaukee County Zoo Milwaukee County Zoo News 2019

That is the current plan that has been talked about. So we’ll have two side of rhinos, rhino where the elephants used to be and where the two we have are currently.
That would be very nice and spacious for the rhinos! The elephant exhibit should definitely be repurposed for the rhinos though. I feel like for these master plans, the zoo should try to bring in a few new species which would be unique and draw more attention to the area. Anyone have the same thought or any animals they wish to see in the masterplan? Like any animals the zoo should acquire?

For the former elephant yard would it be White Rhinos or more Black Rhinos
As far as I know they haven’t yet decided. Although they are hoping to bring in a male black rhino once Mimi (I believe is her name) passes.

Adventure Africa was originally suppose to look more like a savannah and less like spectated areas. There was suppose to be 4 main areas, the elephants, giraffes, rhinos and the hippos; with the elephants, giraffes and rhinos sharing a yard of sorts. There would have been barriers blocking some of the animals from getting in with other animals, but still allowing animals like zebras or ostriches to flow between the main areas. Most likely the barriers would have been below what would have been walking paths for guest on the elevated paths. Unfortunately it seems like the elevated paths were scrapped, although they did try to keep the animals flowing between exhibits alive during the first phase but ended up cutting the bridge that would have connected the impala yard with the elephants.

That being said for this renovated pachyderm/mall way area, there was/is areas for other African animals to be held like the zebras so that the exhibits would be mixed species, however this knowledge is based of the master plan that they are loosely following at this point. So what type of rhinos would we get I’m not sure, I know they want to keep the black rhinos and start a breeding program, hence why we have Josie, however what else would be happening is a mystery at this point. Although if they are hoping to start a breeding program for black rhinos I doubt if they would venture into also getting white rhinos at this time.
