Milwaukee County Zoo Milwaukee County Zoo news 2021

I visited the zoo for the first time in several months today, so apologies of some of these updates aren't new.
- There were 4 colobus monkeys in Primates of the World, but I thought only ever recall seeing three at a time, unless I missed something?
- Some movement/new things in the Reptile building; spider tortoises where the ornate box turtles were, a new false water cobra, and a Brazilian black tarantula, and the tiger salamander exhibit is empty, as well as the cuttlefish tank.

In a recent article about the new zoo director, there were a few hints of what may be coming/ upcoming projects. It seems that he is wanting to fill in the spaces of the empty exhibits around the zoo, the article mentions that they may be more old weather animals so that they can be viewed more throughout the year. It also mentions that he has a love for elephants, the predator and prey exhibits, and the use of moats, to make it seem less like a cage. There is obviously a lot going on in the background but they aren’t yet ready to release the newer outlook for the zoo. Here’s to hoping that we start seeing some of those things soon.

By empty space, do you think they are referring to the forested areas that the train tracks go through? Or possibly expanding into the area around the lake?

As much as I don't like some of the buildings at Milwaukee, I'd hate to see their species list go down. Let's hope they can make a plan that doesn't allow them to get rid of species!

I don’t think they can build in that area per se due to the type of protected land. I’m drawing a blank on the name for what it’s called. The elephant barn was originally suppose to be built back there and well we all know what happened there.

I’m with you on hoping the species list doesn’t go down, but also would like to see the zoo have more species that can be seen year round. I wish that they would expand their buildings so their collection can grow but also give the community another reason to go even during the winter.
