Milwaukee County Zoo Milwaukee County Zoo News 2022

I'd rather the exhibit be demolished completely and replaced with something entirely new. It dates back to the 50s and is terribly out of place next to the modern African exhibits. It's Milwaukee though so even with new management I wouldn't put it past them to keep it around with minor refurbishments - like they did to one of the bear grottos a few years back. A kopje with klipspringers, meerkats and the like would be very neat but I guess we will just have to wait and see.

I totally agree with you.

I wouldn't mind seeing them bring back dwarf mongoose either!

I’m not sure if it is coming back but the former space where they were kept keeps saying the animal is off exhibit so maybe it is making a come back?

As of the beginning of 2022, Brookfield and Lincoln Park are full of individuals, so they could possibly transfer some to Milwaukee? Lincoln Park has a group of four surgically contracepted brothers, which could be the perfect group for Milwaukee.

Just a few quick updates.
* Does anyone know what happened to population of the golden lion tamarin? They all seemed to be gone
* Giraffes were put in their whole outdoor exhibit.
* Red panda gates due to covid were finally removed
* I believe that we lost another caribou, leaving us with just 2.

Thanks for the updates! :D

Is the female Mandrill still there? Or has she left for Disney?

* The Trumpeter Swans "Boo" and "Ghost" have now moved into the last exhibit on the former rhinos side. Not sure what once was there, anyone know? The exhibit is similar to the hippo but other side.
Are the Trumpeter Swans the only birds currently visible?

She was still there as of yesterday.

Their female is 31 years old, so I wonder if they might wait and see if she passes naturally? The recommendation for her to go to Disney is from this year, so I guess we will have to see. (They don't appear to live long beyond 31, so I don't know if Milwaukee is in a rush to get her out of there for future projects?)

I would guess not. Why let her endure a transfer for the last lap of her life. Best to move her behind the scenes and perhaps with the colobus monkeys (if that would work at all for company) or some Central or West African primate surrogate they might hold?

I'm very curious to see what they do with the old exhibit!
