Since there is actually some discussion of what could happen to this zoo in the future, I should probably mention something I forgot to during my last post, and that is the ARC building and what could happen to it in the future, from what I have heard, the aquatic exhibits in the building are quite a bit of a problem there, so there is a possibility of them making an aquarium in the zoo and converting the ARC into a reptile house

I wouldn't mind seeing this! The aquatic tanks are arguably the worst exhibits in that building, so building new ones wouldn't be a bad idea. It would also give them the opportunity to convert the ARC into a stunning reptile house.

Did they mention where it would be located? I wonder if they could turn that building near Macaque Island into an aquarium.

the aviary (don't kill me for saying it, it does need a refresh because I don't think its been touched since it opened, and a small refresh could make it even better).
The aviary, while quite similar to the original, did actually get a $2.8 million renovation in the late 1980s and reopened in 1991. Still, that was over 30 years ago and a refresh couldn't hurt!

This would be a relatively new, diverting from the master plan. The old plan was expanding the ARC building to include a salt water area and a Komodo dragon too.

That is a good point. I'm just not sure where else they could fit one! Maybe if they tore down the sea lion/seal show area?

Was thinking about it, and I wonder if the “aquarium” would the expansion to the ARC building and not a separate building. That way they can renovate the old building for the reptiles and the expansion would be the aquarium.

Updates from my visit today 2/05/2023
Aviary
-There is at least one Chevrotain back on exhibit
Aquarium/Reptile
-The Amazon Milk Frogs have returned and are in the same exhibit they were in previously.
-The Fly River Turtle is also back on exhibit after a long absence due to medical reasons
Small Mammals
-The Prevosts Squirrel now has access to two exhibit spaces.
-I saw the Pygmy Slow Lorises for the first time. They fill the hole in the building that the pottos left well, and the building feels more full of life than it had for the past several months.
Primates
-The Cotton top Tamarins are no longer in the building, their exhibit has a sign that said "Exhibit Empty" There are still cotton tops in Small Mammals
-I saw the family group of gorillas for the first time in what feels like forever. I dont think I'd seen any of the gorillas except Maji since last winter.

Stella the jaguar was euthanized recently. https://twitter.com/milwaukeecozoo/status/1623705965668233219?s=46&t=psN0zRxDXb5yGDyY1o_YDg

Though this is sad news, hopefully their will be a silver lining in that a new female will be able to come in and a breeding program will restart.

Taking a look at the zoos big cat exhibits there seems to be a lot of potential for restarting breeding programs across the lions, tigers, and jaguars… oh my (sorry for the little joke).

I think they will get a female for Frankie. I wonder if they breed the male tiger

It would be great if a female jaguar could be brought in to breed with Francisco. He has valuable genes to contribute thanks to his dad (Pat the Cat) coming from the wild.

Also, with Stella’s death, correct me if I’m wrong, but does that leave Scruffy the hyena as the last original occupant of Big Cat Country?

You are correct. The loss of Stella is an especially heavy one.
To the point on potential breeding, I did ask the zoo about it several years ago when there were still 5 tigers living at the zoo. At that time, I was told that once some more of the tigers are sent to other facilities, they will bring in a female for Frankie to hopefully breed with. But there have been just 2 tigers for quite some time now, I've been wondering what the hold up has been.
This article says that the zoo, "plans to acquire another female jaguar sometime over the next several months": Milwaukee County Zoo's matriarch jaguar dies; age-related conditions

The recent posts piqued my curiosity... what are populations for each cat species (or Big Cat Country exhibit resident in the case of the hyena and red panda) at Milwaukee?

Also really glad to hear about the Chevrotain and gorilla updates. Wasn't there a lot of worry the Chevrotain had been permanently gone?

This might not be entirely correct:
3 female lions (mom and 2 daughters)
1 male and 1 female hyena
1 male 1 female tiger (half brother and sister)
1 snow leopard (don't remember which gender)
2 cheetahs (same gender but I don't remember which)
1 male and 1 female red panda (not sure if there's a cub still here)
1 male jaguar
1 male Serval

I believe both cheetahs are females.
