Recently took a trip to the zoo, looks like almost all of winter safe guards have been removed, the only one still left is the hippo outdoor exhibit. Hopefully the hippo exhibit will be up and running soon.

Another thing I noticed was the number of signs now posted around the zoo saying don’t feed the animals. I wasn’t that was as big as a problem at the zoo but I guess that it was.

Also the archer fish tank is now blacked out and under a remodel.

Lastly, I saw that a red panda was in pre shipment exams, and just today it’s confirmed that Cinder has been transferred to another facility. https://www.instagram.com/p/CsG9NqpuNeS/?igshid=MzRlODBiNWFlZA==

I’m wonder if we are getting any new animals this summer. I would have assumed animals would have been transferred by now or soon to be to make it through the quarantine period by Memorial Day weekend but who knows. Here’s to hoping we get animals to restart the breeding programs for bongos, lions, snow leopards, giraffes, tigers, jaguars.

Some sad news from the zoo this morning. Male zebra, Stuart, has passed away after an accident in the exhibit. According to the zoo, "Stuart inadvertently hit a wire containment fence pole. The wire fencing surrounds the habitat. Despite the immediate response from the veterinary team, Stuart did not survive his injuries."

Does this leave them with 1 or 2 zebras?

I thought there were two zebras in the impala plains?
There’s still 2 in the watering hole, and now 1 impala yard. They typically don’t put both female zebras out at the same time in the watering hole due to the aggressive response to the other animals from one of the zebra. The male zebras were kept in the impala yard.

The zoo has taken down the signs for zebras in the impala plains yard and I didn’t see one in the watering hole exhibit either!
Also random side note… I saw two siamang! Is one a new arrival to the zoo or has there been two of them?

They are 2 male siamang that arrived last year

One of the females, Zink, was euthanized last year. So this should leave them with a male named Paco and a female named Kelly.
