The zoo currently has Grey/Timber Wolves in the Minnesota Trail area and Dholes on the Northern Trail loop (where there used to be Mexican Grey Wolves).
The wolf pups are wild rescues from Alaska. No word on what's happening with the two older wolves that were on exhibit in the Minnesota Trail but my guess is they're more than likely enjoying a quiet retirement in behind-the-scenes quarters.

It is a shame that this happens. Hopefully people at the Zoo will be able to retain their jobs. I am surprised that this zoo's attendance dropped this summer as the zoo is quite incredible.
Maybe because they closed cetacean exhibit???

The dolphins were a star attraction, still, if that were the case it would be weird that the attendance has only dropped now, considering they sent the dolphins away years ago.

The exhibit hasn't been designed yet. Concept images are often too optimistic.
The zoo's master plan shows the exhibit to have underwater viewing. If the exhibit does get constructed with this feature, it will be amazing to watch the macaques during the colder months of the Minnesota winter.

Reading the RFP for the bidding design firms (that is, the document the Zoo issued to guide those firms that want to design it) it DOES mention underwater viewing of the hot springs! So that is the goal.

That's interesting. Admittedly I am a bit disappointed that they have to get super common animals to draw crowds (you can see zebras at like, every zoo!) but I won't criticize 'em for it. Gotta do what you gotta do. Since they might be getting giraffes, I'm wondering if they'll set up a feeding station, since that's become so popular in zoos. (admittedly I do enjoy feeding giraffes, but it's mostly because I get all excited about how big giraffes are close up) Though I am a bit surprised that someone who writes books about zoos is criticizing them for not having some of the conventional zoo animals. You'd think someone who has been to lots of zoos would eventually develop an interest for the weirder or rarer animals. Sure, there's nothing wrong with liking a popular animal (I myself am a fan of tigers) but I don't get complaining every time it's not in a zoo.
Glad to see that the Hawaiian monk seal exhibit is moving forward. I was afraid it would get delayed again.
Snow monkey exhibit sounds like it'll be pretty cool.
It does seem strange that the Minnesota Zoo is wanting to keep African species. Doesn't the Como Park Zoo have those already? Will this be the first zoo to have Hawaiian monk seals? I never knew those were exhibited in zoos.
The Waikiki Aquarium in Hawaii that has monk seals, but Minnesota will certainly be the only mainland zoo with them.

Nope, SeaWorld San Antonio also has Hawaiian monk seals.
