Do you have any photos of the new birds?

The hognose was one of my favorites too, a shame it had to go.

I do but the quality is bad so I can’t post it here on zoochat , but the hognose is still at the zoo, it was to scared and wouldn’t eat or drink on exhibit.EDIT: the new bird species in the small aviary is Sri Lankan jungle fowl and common emerald dove.

I just saw this species last month on the pond, along with wild geese, mallard ducks, And I think a wild Ring-necked duck, might be the first time I've seen this species.
The Trumpeter Swans are not zoo animals, they are wild.

I always thought they were kept by the zoo. Probably explains why I haven’t seen them in almost 2 years. Some other updates include the replacement of moon jellyfish with Atlantic sea nettles, the removal of Nigerian dwarf goats from the northern trail, and that trumpeter swans can be removed since they are wild.

The zoo kept swans for several decades, both on the main lake and at some times other places along the Northern Trail. As noted by @MidwestFan they were kept as breeding stock for reintroduction. The reintroductions stopped in the early 2010s, so that's about when swans stopped being part of the captive collection.

The Atlantic sea nettles are gone, & in there place is a new nursery tank, with young animals from the nearby coral reef tank. Most of the fish are existing species, with the exception of the green-spotted puffer.

The Minnesota Zoo exhibits more sea life than I realized between the coral reef exhibit on the Tropics Trail and the Discovery Bay complex. How does the zoo compare to the Sea Life aquarium at the Mall of America in terms of species diversity and exhibit quality?

I recall both facilities exhibits being of reasonably high quality. I'm inclined to say the Zoo has better species diversity, but that is quite hard to determine because, at least when I last went (2018), the Sea Life aquarium did an atrocious job signing its species.

Sea Life Minnesota is clearly the superior facility for marine life in terms of exhibitry. Species diversity is about the same.
