Minnesota Zoo Minnesota Zoo surveys biodiversity on its grounds

The Minnesota Zoo is doing a survey of the biological diversity of its own grounds to share with visitors the native plant and wildlife bonanza that lives there. Many other zoos likely have rich native biodiversity to be explored in their literal own backyards. As usual, the Minnesota Zoo is pioneering a good idea here.

I don't know if I would say pioneering, but they are certainly building upon the slow trend of zoos recognizing wild animals on their own properties.

Zoos like Smithsonian, Miami, North Carolina, and Jacksonville have surveyed their properties at least 10 years ago.

Lincoln Park Zoo has an entire research department dedicated to urban wildlife issues.

And the C2S2 members are supposed to managing their none developed acreage as native wildlife refuges.
