Siegfried & Roy’s Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat Mirage Sold to Hard Rock: Future of Secret Garden and Dolphin Habitat

If the animal attractions are still making them money, they will probably stay. This is not the first time that the Mirage has been sold. If the dolphins and cats stop being a tourist draw and/or the casino figures that they can use the space for something more profitable, that will be when they get axed.

Siegfried and Roy are both dead and their show is a fading memory now, so that does not augur well probably for the long-term existence of their zoo at the Mirage. The dolphins have a massive permanent infrastructure that may be more difficult to shut down, although it seems like everything in Vegas has an expiration date at some point and there is plenty of precedence for zoos ending dolphin exhibits (e.g., Minnesota Zoo, Point Defiance Zoo, Oklahoma Zoo).

According to reports, they are planning on adding a guitar shaped hotel on the site. The most obvious space is the animal area....of course if they are remodeling the entire property they could add it out front of the two towers and redo the casino floor and get rid of the atrium, but without renderings it is just guessing right now.

I saw one rendering of the new guitar hotel and it was on the strip, approximately where a parking garage is now. That would imply that the gardens may stay. However, they did say the hotel will be re-themed from tropics to rock-roll, implying the gardens may go.

Not sure what Hard Rock's game is here. They had a great hotel in Vegas and sold it a few years ago. Now they're getting back in the game?

MGM has been trying to consolidate more of their properties on the south end of the strip. At the same time MGM is buying the Cosmopolitan, which is closer to their other properties. This site is, overall, a much better location for the Hard Rock than the previous location off the strip. The old Hard Rock (now Virgin) was also nearly constantly under financial distress, it was a good move for them to get out when they could and consolidate onto this property.

Thanks for the explanation!

Unless plans have changed, the guitar tower will be where the volcano currently is. The hotel is being rebranded, so the volcano is getting demolished according to multiple news articles that I've seen. I do believe there will be some sort of light show on the new tower though.

Part of the deal allows MGM to keep The Mirage name, so it's possible the concept can be brought back to life someday
