I've been wondering are their still Australian freshwater crocodiles in the Tiger River exhibit? Also, do they still have red pandas in Polar Bear Plunge? Both of these have annoyed me for some time now. They're teaching bad geography.

No to both. In fact I don't remember the last time there were red pandas in polar bear plunge! It's been fixed.

I personally don't have a problem with animals being out of place. Probably because at the Los Angeles Zoo we have Babirusas, a Bactrian Camel, Speke's Gazelles, Lowland Anoas, and Wild Dogs in the North American Section.:D

Anyways...if people read the sign, then they will learn where the animals comes from.

The Polar Bear Plunge is based on the Arctic/sub-arctic regions of Asian, so the red pandas wouldnt be too far off.

SDCritter, could you let us know what is currently living in the exhibits in question?

There was an asian wild cat in the old Pallas's cat exhibit when I was there in August. This cage isn't the best looking exhibit in comparison to the diving duck, reindeer and polar bear habitats.

What about the croc pool in Tiger River?

Also, it doesn't bother me at LA, because that's really a sort of loose association, it's not a simulated habitat.

And about red pandas, their entire range is south of the Himalayas that's not very close at all.

Ituri, I was there recently and the small mammal exhibit in Polar Bear Plunge was off limits as was the caribou exhibit due to construction in that area for a new extension of the polar bear exhibit, so I am not sure if anything is in residence there. The Tiger River former croc exhibit is now a fantastic mixed species turtle exhibit, although I dont remember the species showcased.

Thanks. I hear the additional polar bear cubbing area is going to change the view to the reindeer from behind the polar bears. Can you add any details about that? It will also be interesting to see what species are in the small animal exhibits when that area is all opened up again.

I cant add to that, it didnt look like much construction was going when I was there, just closed off.
