Do you think I could put the Vultures with Warthog and/or African-crested porcupine instead? There’s a huge chance of the vultures getting eaten
The Aviary would be fairly tall, with a lot of tall rock landings for the Vultures. They could potentially spend the entire time off the ground, as they would be fed on one of the platforms.Porcupine: with enough space maybe, don't know about stress though
Warthog: if a large part of the aviary is only accessible to the vultures it might just work, but once again not sure.
And eventually they would come down to the ground, vultures like to walk about and explore. Hyaenas aren’t daft, they’d be waiting. The Aviary would be fairly tall, with a lot of tall rock landings for the Vultures. I realize now that the hyenas were a stupid idea. This tall Aviary would be for Ruppel's Griffon Vulture with Common Warthog and/or African-crested PorcupineAnd eventually they would come down to the ground, vultures like to walk about and explore. Hyaenas aren’t daft, they’d be waiting.
I have a fairly limited knowledge on animal behaviour, but this might work if the exhibit was big enough. This is because Bharal like steep and rugged slopes, which would limit room for the geese in an open air exhibit if wings were clipped, however in a netted exhibit it should be fine. As for the marmots, they would require more grassy areas (based on their native habitat) and plenary of burrows/crevices/hidey holes, which could cause the energetic Bharal to trip. But as I said I’m not 100% sure so I could be wrong.Do you guys think that a mix between Bharal (Blue sheep),Alpine marmots and Bar-headed geese can work out in a feasible manner?
Superb habitat and geographically appropriate mix. Nice. I would add Ruddy Shelduck.Do you guys think that a mix between Bharal (Blue sheep),Alpine marmots and Bar-headed geese can work out in a feasible manner?
Just dropping here that Alpine marmots are not native to the Himalayas, though they are together with the bobak the closest representation possible of the native Himalayan marmot. Bobak are actually more closely related to the Himalayan species then Alpine marmots, but I don't know which one looks the most similar.Superb habitat and geographically appropriate mix. Nice. I would add Ruddy Shelduck.
In general big exhibits and also carefully selecting the species like rhinos who are less prone to tripping.Hey guys i have a question, knowing warthogs digging habits can may cause tripping in mixed exhibits, how is this managed in zoos? just asking.
nice suggestion, thanksIn general big exhibits and also carefully selecting the species like rhinos who are less prone to tripping.
Some examplesDoes anyone know what kind of bird species have been mixed with Yellow-billed storks in a aviary-type setting. To be honest it just came to my head today so it got me thinking that’s all.Thank you very much if you do know.

Thanks @Jarne I really appreciate your help. Some examples
- In Amersfoort they are kept in Snavelrijk with Marabu, glossy ibis, griffon vulture and dalmatian pelican.
- In Antwerp they are kept with all the species mentioned in this (ZooLex Exhibit - Cape Buffalo Aviary - Birds) except for the glossy ibis as they have been replaced by southern bald ibis.
- In Doué-la-fontaine they are kept in the okapi aviary with okapi, duiker, hamley's monkey, saddle-billed stork, Abdim's stork, hammerkop, hadada ibis, grey parrot, multiple turacos, whistling ducks, Egyptian goose, rollers and doves (probably some species I forgot to mention as well).
- Tierpark berlin keeps them with Abdim's storks, Hadada ibis, African sacred ibis, Hamerkop, African openbill and helmeted guineafowl
- In Beauval they are kept in the hippo-aviary with hippo, vultures, many ducks, spoonbills, ibis (at least 3 species), Abdim's storks, African openbill, hamerkop, pelicans and I also think the nyala and red river hogs are part of the aviary but not sure. In the hippo pond are also some fish like carp, tench and snook.
Always happy to help. In Doué and Berlin they have bred b.t.w. In Amersfoort they haven't bred since they arrived years ago, in Antwerp they haven't had the chance yet (arrived this summer). I don't know wether they have bred in Beauval. Thanks @Jarne I really appreciate your help.
