Mixed species exhibit ideas

Some places mix kookaburras with other birds but this can be problematic. I know of a place that lost some Bourke's Parrots to a kookaburra.

Indeed, I know one zoo that had a kookaburra in a walk-through aviary that wasn't continent-specific, and on two occasions the kookaburra gave passerines it killed as "unwanted gifts" to visitors, one of which was a red-crested cardinal :oops:. After that the kookaburra was given his own exhibit.

Columbus used to have laughing kookaburras mixed with Indian crested porcupines in the side exhibit in their Roadhouse Aviary.

San Diego had a fly river turtle in the fish tank in the Owens Aviary right up until it closed for renovations.

Duisburg keeps kookaburras together with long-nosed potoroos, australasian shovelers and bush stone-curlews in a avrage sized aviary

In my experience Rosellas will attack and kill smaller birds. The cock birds will even attack and kill their hens
 
I’ve heard of African Wild dogs and white rhinos. I was wondering how big an exhibit would have to be for these two animals to coexist and what would need to be in the enclosure. Thank you for any information!

Just because an enclosure has been tried doesn’t necessarily mean that it should have been tried. This might end with no casualties, but there are just too many scenarios that would end in disaster, (Wild Dogs hunting a calf, Rhino getting spooked and trampling a dog, etc.)

Where did you hear of this, and at which zoo?
 
i dont remember if it has been done before, but given a big enough water space, could pacu and anaconda be kept together?
 
Could Magpie Shrikes live with Cape-thick-knees and Peach-faced lovebirds in a Namibian dry scrubland themed exhibit?
 
With the “successes” some zoos have seen mixing rhinoceros and cheetah, theoretically would cheetah and African bush elephant work in a mixed species exhibit?

I’m not suggesting it’s a good idea. Just wondering what peoples thoughts would be on it.
