Visited Dudley Zoo today to renew my season ticket (damn good value at £28), and was told that if the weather is ok (ie not a blanket of snow and ice) the lions are going to be introduced to each other outside for the first time.
Sadly as I'm going to be at work I can't be there, but I'm thinking that the weather will ruin the plans anyway.

Other news, the snow leopards are still not together, the plan is still to wait until the female is in season, and if it doesn't go to plan, then the zoo will think about replacing her with another female as she hasn't bred yet.

The zoo are also hopeful of being studbook holders for Sumatran Tigers and hope to get a young pair in at some point, one of them could be Sarah's daughter I was told.

I was surprised to see the flamingo's outside and bathing in their pool, it was cold enough outside without going into cold water, they must be hardy Black Country birds!

Is Sarah being moved on then? I can't see either of her daughters moving back up to Dudley. Banda is now 7 and busy raising her 2nd (and possibly last) litter down at Paignton Zoo. Indah is 4 and has been paired with a young male (Amir) with high hopes of breeding this year. However there are 4 grandaughters who should be ready to be moved in the next few years. Wanita at Dublin , Surya at Paignton and the 1:2 cubs at Lisbon sired by her son Pendaker. Somehow I don't think Chester will part with Kirana in a hurry!

No Sarah is there for life AFAIK.
I was told by one of the education staff that they would like to get one of her daughters and a young male at the zoo, but Sahah is going nowhere, she's a real old lady now.

Chizlit is right beautiful Sarah is staying there for the rest of her life.
Along with the Asiatic Black Bear
Sad news coming from the zoo the female snow leopard died last friday 15th aged 14 reason unknown as yet, but the vet was checking the male out today 19th all seemed well.
The zoo are hopefull of a female returning to the zoo one day as they have been in touch with the holder's of the Stud book.
The Orangutan House is having the scaffolding taken down so they can put some cladding on.
The Malagasy jumping rats are no longer at the zoo as the last of them as died of old age.
Still no Male Rothchild's Giraffe and the lionesses are still in the holding enclosure but they hope to let them in with the male very shortly weather permitting.

Adrian ,that's really sad news about the female snow leopard, she was quite a grumpy old girl, but very beautiful, hope they get a new suitable female soon.
