Are Damara zebras a rare species in zoos? The Monterey Zoo has both Damara and Grant’s according to their website.
So apparently this zoo has been sued by peta for mistreatment of elephants in the past, and a California court ruled in favor of peta.... they also have to pay peta's attorney fees, which seems extremely odd and very unprecedented, although I'm no legal expert. Not sure what to make of this development.

They do not.Do they still even have elephants? I was under the impression they no longer do, but the species is still listed on their website.

I wonder if it was an issue that maybe happened before the zoo became an actual zoo. Before ZAA accreditation, during their movie acting facility years.

Do you know if the claims are legitimate? Cause from what I’ve seen it’s a nice facility. Obviously there’s a lot that can happen out of public view, but it seemed like a legitimate zoo.
I don’t think anyone got upset here. It’s just rather puzzling why you would ask a question over something that had been clearly stated. And what’s even more puzzling is if you had trusted what was said, why feel the need to ask about it?I wasn’t saying it in an argumentative way, I was just curious what of the claims were actually real. I believe what you said. No need to get upset.
I do trust that accurate information was provided, I’m just a little shocked that this facility had things like this happen. Taking into consideration from everything I’ve seen from my 2 visits. The animals seem to have very close bonds with their zookeepers and I never would’ve guessed that. My question was more just a processing thing. And it wasn’t necessarily getting upset, it was more the underlying tone given. My question was not directed at what Tinopup stated, it was more at PETA’s claims because they are an organization that like to cause problems including their ongoing claims against Fresno Chaffee Zoo’s elephant exhibit which is really well done by the way. And due to this, I don’t put any value or trust in the large majority of what PETA says.
@TinoPup did say this exact quote earlier, which does address your sentiment, so I still don't see what you were confused on? I understand it can seem jarring and hard to belive, etc etc, but the information that could've addressed your question was still already stated.I'm definitely not a fan of peta, but this isn't the same as them going after AZA zoos, there is a lot more background to this.
