Open from 1966 to 1991 and built for the 1967 World Expo on St Helen's Island in Montreal, Quebec. Towards the end of its life, the aquarium of plagued with lack of funds, workers dispute, and mismanagement. The city of Montreal looked for alternatives, including building a new aquarium at a different site, but a poor economic environment in the early 1990s ended this debate. When the aquarium finally closed, many of its animals were transferred to the newer Biodome de Montreal.
