I guess they are also found in many Scandinavian zoos - I saw them at Skansen in Stockholm, the enclosure is ok, made up of inter-linking paddocks which I imagine helps ensure that appropriate social groupings are maintained but the wire fences aren't that attractive barriers in my view. I'm not sure how much access they have to water.

The Skandinavisk Dyrepark in Denmark looks like it has a great enclosure.

Yes, they're relatively common in Scandinavian zoos.

The elks at Skansen has access to a smaller pond. It should be noted that it's only one of the paddocks that have a wire-fence, the others are completely made of wood.
 
The moose at the HWP, have a large open area of the drive through reserve, and a small pond, i would like to see them with a larger pond and a lot deeper too.

I would like to see more zoos in the UK take on moose/elk, i could see them in the forest at Port Lympne.
 
Isn`t there a herd of European Moose in private hands in Scotland at th place where the Laird is trying to turn it into an open wilderness with Bears and Wolves and anything else that has been hunted to extinction in this country.

They may have had yound since but they only imported 1.1. I gahter they will add more once they have settled and are breeding.

The T.V. programme showed the arrival of the first pair of Elk. Apart from them they only had a herd of wild Boar at that stage. Does anyone know if any other species have been added since, or have the various planning issues delayed everything else?

I know they are currently enclosed but wondered if this landscape is a bit harsh for reintroducing Elk/Moose longterm,- their requirements are wooded river valleys for shelter and food(birch/willow) and of course those Highland valleys are mostly bare, having all been denuded by being overpolulated by Red Deer. Recreating a proper balance by eradicating deer and allowing fresh growth of vegetation would take a very long time indeed.
