The EAZA Facebook page has provided some more details about the Vietnam pheasant move, which took place earlier this week. The plan is for chicks hatched at Jurong to move to a breeding centre in Vietnam, with second-generation birds hatched in this centre then being released into the wild.
 
The zoo is expecting three southern brown tortoises from Chester but the transfer has been delayed due to some difficulties (Brexit I suppose). The three animals will be mixed with the malayan tapirs and sulawesi crested macaques.
 
 
Interesting new from Mulhouse :
- a terrarium in the primates house has been refurbished and now hold tomato frogs (new species) and a pair of Madagascar tree boas. They will be joined in the future by geckos and Madagascar hissing cockroaches.
- the zoo plan to create a large aviary for eurasian griffon vultures, eurasian black vultures, northen bald ibisses, european pond turtles and common hamsters.

It's a very good idea to introduce cockroaches, I love them.

Birth of two Patagonian sea lions on July 12 and 16. The two babies were sexed on August 13 and they are two females.

We can also add the birth of two musk oxen on June 7 and 26.

Finally, we note the birth of three Socorro doves. A birth which will make it possible to strengthen the world population and perhaps hope for future reintroductions. Note that they have completely disappeared in the wild.

I visited the zoo again in late October. I was lucky to have really warm and sunny weather. The place is truly amazing to visit in autumn, with the tall trees showing beautiful colors. From the upper part of the zoo, you can see the hilltops of the Black Forest in the distance.

A fun fact I didn't know before is that the zoo is located in the more affluent neighborhood of the city (the Rebberg), where all the industrial era bourgeois built their mansions. The rest of the city looks really decrepit in comparsion (Mulhouse overall suffers from a poor image in Alsace).

Just like in my previous visit, there are 4 sifakas on exhibit at the moment (the parents and two of their offspring). They truly are a joy to observe... I feel like pictures don't do them justice.

I was able to see the young sand cats born earlier this year. On the other hand, the zoo apparently doesn't have manuls anymore.
