Ce transfert, fruit d’une collaboration avec la coordinatrice de l’EEP, illustre notre engagement pour la conservation ex-situ (hors du milieu naturel). En effet, la panthère de l'Amour est actuellement classée en danger critique d’extinction sur la Liste Rouge de l'IUCN. C'est le félin le plus menacé au monde, avec moins de 100 individus à l’état sauvage. À Mulhouse, il rejoint une femelle pour former un nouveau couple reproducteur et espérer une nouvelle naissance, cruciale pour la survie de l’espèce ➡️ Les EEP visent à maintenir des populations saines et génétiquement diversifiées en parcs animaliers sur le long terme. Au Parc Animalier d'Auvergne, 80 % des espèces présentes font partie d’un EEP ! Et en 2028, nous deviendrons le premier parc au monde à n'héberger que des espèces menacées ! Le transfert de Baruto représente un engagement fort en faveur de la conservation de son espèce. Ce départ temporaire permettra à Zéïa, la petite femelle née au Parc en août 2024, de grandir auprès de sa mère. Baruto reviendra au Parc et retrouvera Suyiana, avec l’espoir d’accueillir une nouvelle naissance exceptionnelle Pour assurer un transfert sécurisé et respectueux du bien-être de Baruto, nos soigneurs, éthologues et vétérinaires ont travaillé avec lui durant plusieurs mois. Death of Baïkal, a (1.0) Siberian tiger who was born in the mulhouse zoo 18 years ago.
Zoo de Mulhouse on Instagram: "C’est avec une profonde tristesse que nous vous annonçons que Baïkal, notre majestueux mâle tigre de Sibérie, nous a quittés hier soir, au bel âge de 18 ans. Baïkal avait vu le jour à Mulhouse en 2007 et était rapidement devenu une icône du parc qu’il marquait de ses rugissements réguliers. Depuis plusieurs années, il souffrait d’insuffisance rénale et l’équipe animalière et vétérinaire le suivait avec attention pour lui prodiguer les meilleurs soins gériatriques. Son état de santé s’est malheureusement fortement dégradé ces derniers jours. Au vu de son âge et de ses antécédents médicaux, l’équipe vétérinaire a donc pris la difficile décision de l’endormir définitivement. C’est dans le calme, apaisé et entouré de ses soigneuses, dont certaines l’avaient vu naître, qu’il a été anesthésié puis euthanasié. Mulhouse Zoo will be closed on May 13th for a joint construction site, which will involve technical staff from the entire muncipal association "Mulhouse Alsace Agglomération". Thereby, the general condition of the parc will be improved. Work will be carried out on the paths and the meerkat house, for example. The zoo states that the ultimate aim of this project is to open the "Horizon Afrique" to the public in the best possible conditions. After not hearing something official about the new exhibit for quite a while, this information kinda lets me hope that the "Horizon Afrique" might indeed open this summer.

According to an article in the regional newspaper "L'Alsace", which again refers to the joint construction site at Mulhouse Zoo, the new area called Horizon Afrique is expected to open on the 1st of August.
Horizon Afrique is, with a budget of 18.5 million euros provided by the muncipial association, by far the biggest project in the history of the zoo (originally planed: 8.5 million euros).
As it has already been mentioned in this and in other threads, Horizon Afrique will represent two different african ecosystems, the savannah (giraffes, zebras, gazelles, ostriches ...) and the Upper Guinean Rainforest (pygmy hippos, crocodiles, galagos, birds ...). Also, there will be two islands for Roloway and Hamlyn's monkeys.

The zoo has thereby confirmed the 1st of August as opening date of the Horizon Afrique. In the course of this special event, the zoo is undertaking a small "rebranding" and is appearing with a new logo (Although I have to admit that I personally liked the old logo a little better). Other "big surprises" have also been announced.
 
 
Some more information about the new "Horizon Afrique" expansion :
There will be two major buildings, the first will house giraffes, a central aquarium, and a vivarium, while the second will house pygmy hippos and additional aquariums. Secondary buildings will house Roloway and Hamlyn's monkeys.

The main savanna habitat will feature Kordofan giraffes, Mhorr and Dorcas gazelles (making their return to France), North African ostriches and Grévy’s zebras (which will often be separated in a secondary enclosure).

Other confirmed new species include the slender-snouted crocodile (Mecistops cataphractus) and the Egyptian tortoise (Testudo kleinmanni), another french rarity.

But if I understand correctly, the antelope building will not be accessible to the public, as was initially planned?
In any case, I'm delighted by the arrival of these new species and the imminent opening of an exhibition that is so relevant in its design.
 
As you can see, the source I shared doesn't go into much detail, so I can't say for sure whether the antelope building will be accessible to the public or not. We'll probably have to wait for official confirmation or feedbacks.

It could be Chamaeleo namaquensis, to be confirmed... But if it is the case it would be the third holder in Europe with Praha and Haus des Meeres
