And there are the private collections that I visit at least once a year
I would be grateful if yu could give me a insight in what to look for in these collections and I would be interested to know what your must visit zoos and other collections are for 2011 and why

I've only started visiting animal collections seriously in the last couple of years so there are still loads of places I want to visit. Here are a few that I'd like to do next year (as well as keeping up my regularish visits to Yorkshire wildlife park, twycross, Chester, Monkeyworld and Colchester).

Port Lym and howletts
London zoo (not been for 10 years)
repeat trip to Bristol.
Would love to visit appenhal.
Flamingoland - curious to see zoo in a theme park
Wildlife heritage centre

there are so many zoos i would love to visit. realistically i am planning to visit the following for the first time:
-howletts
-port lympne
-chester
-ywp
-woburn

i also hope to get back to scotland and visit edinburgh and hwp (not been to either for over 2 years)

i will also try visit my nearest zoos at least once: marwell, twycross, monkey world, cotswold, chessington, bristol, london, colchester, whipsnade

Nothing booked yet, but we are looking at spending a week in Kent in July 2011. We went Scotland in June 2010 and did Edinburgh Zoo, Highlands Wildlife Park, Blair Drummond Safari Park and a number of wildlife watching, including 2 places with seals and a place with a trio of Peregrine falcon chicks.

If we go to Kent, we plan on doing Howletts and Port Lympne as priorities, hopefully with a few other collections thrown in :) (I'm hoping we can get down to Whipsnade or London in the year as well, curious after the recent documentary :))

For me next year hoping to get over to the Isle of Wight to do the collections there, the other place I would like to get over to is the Isle of Man to do Curraghs and see the site of the old zoo at Groudle Glen, also hope to have a few days up in Scotland to catch up with some of the collections up there also hope to get up to Oban Sealife Centre while in Scotland as its place I`ve never got to despite the fact i used to spend alot of time in the area 15 years ago.
As for collections that are high on my list to visit next year are Belfast,Wingham,Thrigby Hall,Amazona and South Wildlife Park!

I continue to be amazed at how many zoological parks there are in a country as small as the United Kingdom.

We were too. In a 3 week visit from Australia we fitted in the usual family things [wedding etc] but also managed to visit 15 animal collections. And we barely scratched the surface!

I'm hoping to pay first visits to Woburn, Whipsnade, Colchester, Edinburgh, Noahs Ark, Manor House and Folly Farm in 2011. As well as returns to Port Lympne, Howletts, Bristol, National Marine aquarium, New Forest, Bristol, Cotswold and Birdland.
