Blackpool Zoo My Blackpool Zoo updates#1

Yorkshire wildlife park has one too.
Knew I had to have missed a few, until you posted that couldn't even picture one at Yorkshire Wildlife Park, now that I have looked at my photos of the place I know why I couldn't remember it!!!And thats because its as dull and boring of an exhibit as the one at Black Isle and that is not a good thing to say about a Park that I rate highly!!

Update from today!;

1)Two L'hoest Monkeys have gone on-show in the Island enclosure next to the Pileated Gibbon.
2)The two baby Camels 'Will' and 'Kate' have moved to the Gazelle paddock.
3)I counted 15 Magnelliac Penguins and 5 new Reindeer calfs
4)Dexter the Saki has returned on-show with the new female.

Photos to follow. :)

Update from today!;

1)Two L'hoest Monkeys have gone on-show in the Island enclosure next to the Pileated Gibbon.

Presumably they are two of the ones Edinburgh imported recently (was it from the States?) and which were planned to be dispersed mostly to other zoos.

Will be visiting within the next few days (as yet not set a date) what should I look out for and what as the zoo got that no one else has got

Which new arrivals will be on show within the next 7 days and what are the refreshments like (food & prices)

I will be putting a independent review about the zoo as it is the first time I have visited for quite a while so should be very interesting.

Wallaby and Kangaroo walk through enclosures in the Uk off the top of my head are,
Banham Zoo ? (Used to have one not sure if they still do)
Black Isle Wildlife Park
Blackpool Zoo
Colchester Zoo
Dudley Zoo
Lakeland Wildlife Oasis (Used to me free roaming in the outdoor section)
Marwell Zoo
Newquay Zoo (Used to have a pair of free roaming Parma Wallaby)
Paignton Zoo
South Lakes Wild Animal Park
Twycross Zoo (In the new pets corner not always open to the public)
Whipsnade Zoo (Free roaming inside the park)
Wingham Wildlife Park
Woburn Safari Park

And Longleat too!

Quick update from a few hours at the Zoo today!

1)Tebogo the young Zebra is nearly the size of his mother. He again was with Bette and Helene.
2)The L'hoest monkeys were given outdoor access.
3)Danny the Donkey was with Charlene, Leah and Eliza no sign of Amanda and Emma.
4)Only one Chinese Water Dragon.
5)Wallace the Lion was with one female.
6)The newly arrived Alpaca are were the Shetland Ponies were previously- the Shetland Ponies are due to leave in september.

A few notes from today's visit-

- The male Sitatunga was at the back of the paddock and was certainly catching the eye of one female.
- Bette the Zebra has a bad hoof.
- One of the Red fronted Lemurs has moved to the Squirrel monkey enclosure in the small primate house
- Wallace the Lion was with the females
- only 0:2 Gazelles I saw
- One of the Long nosed Potoroos have moved in with the Lorikeets near the Wallaby walkthrough

1:1 Kea taken off-show

Well they were on-show on the 28/9/2011,so they weren't off-show for long!

Also they now have a Chinese Soft-shelled Turtle in with the Nile Monitor in the Elephant House, and they have just recieved Chester Zoo's old breeding male Sitatunga,as their new breeding male! Also some sad news is that the Agile Wallabys left the collection earlier this year, now leaving only South Lakes Wild Animal Park with this species in the UK.

This might be old news, but it was a very pleasant surprise for me ... Blackpool now have a pair of L'Hoest's Guenon in place of the smaller colobus group on the islands near the entrance (the main group in the primate house is looking as good as ever). They came from Edinburgh and are currently confined to the house: obviously they will need to be introduced to the island carefully having had no previous experience of water barriers.

New focus in EAZA on Cercopithecinae.. About timely .... result of recent US imports too.
