Once every month (except August & December), I have an oryx club meeting at my local zoo Marwell, and this keeps me up to date with what goes on. Knowing this will be provide an interesting asset to the site, I decided to make this thread as a way for me to post news relating to the matter:

16th NOVEMBER 2008:
- 3 Dorcas Gazelles were born within the space of the week, the most recent being born on the actual day! Another female looked heavilly pregnant.
- Work on the Amphibian Centre is slow but steady; vivariums for public viewing have just being put up.
- A young pair of snow leopards are due to arrive within a few months.
- Most exciting of all, there has being a new pygmy hippo calf.

Yay, baby hippo :)

That's great Marwell Dalek, if I get to Marwell next year I'll know what to look out for.

two questions, where is the old pair of snow leopards going

and when is the estimated finish date of the amphibian centre?

Kiril died of old age two months ago, leaving Yasmin on her own. When the new pair arrive, the divide will split the enclosure into two again, the new pair on one side, Yasmin on the other.

I was going to ask Bill Hall that (the questions I did ask he didn't know for the first time EVER: Why has Night Life been closed for so long & What's going in the pudu enclosure now that the last male is about to leave), but going by the looks of progress, I'd say late December/Early January.

i hate them dividing the enclosure, i think it makes it too small

is yasmin still breeding age?

I didn't want the jaguars to leave Marwell, I didn't want the elephants to leave Longleat. You have to get used to it, and look forward to the new animal around the corner.

Yasmin is getting on a bit, which is why the new pair are being introduced. And I think the enclosure is still quite sizeable when it's divided.

i think yasmin should leave to another collection to be honest, maybe port lympne?

as for cat-man, grow up a bit, these things happen

Wonder we could have a thread where you don't make some sarcastic comment to cat-man?
Maybe it's you who needs to grow up a bit.

i see his reaction as a bit over the top, pudus arent the biggest exhibit in the park and i dont see what the fuss is about.

It's not that, ashley-h is picking out the point you criticise him in most of the threads he posts in.

Well then stop bullying and leave it for the mods to sort if it's that much of a problem. All he said was "I don't want the Pudu to leave" with quite a few smileys which are there to be used. That was not irrelivant and is his personal view.

he could have just put "its a shame the pudu are leaving" not an over the top display of smileys

But he used the smileys, nobody died, and nobody's going to worry about it in a weeks time, so lets just leave it ;)

actually
when ever i go it always comes up to me, i always liked them! i am very upset about it and your comments tiger

The Pudu at Bristol always seems to do that to me too...

well if you keep posting like that it might upset the moderators (not my problem)

i must say that im not attracted to most hoofed animals, bongo and okapi are probably the only ones that draw me in.

TLG, you're gonna be the one irritating the mods by constantly criticising Catman.

Hoofed Mammals that are unique or rare are the ones that interest me personally.
