I went to the Pass holders talk last night given by the new Zoological Director, Jonathon Cracknell, who was very impressive.

A few minutes where spent talking about the current plans at the Park and included:

- Grevy zebra and Ostrich being introduced to the Valley field for Easter
- The Tapir arriving at the end Feb/ beginning for March.
- Marmosets will be back in the Tropical House for Easter
- The Gibbon enclosure will have more climbing facilities within the next few weeks
- The Bird collection will be reviewed - so this could mean some changes
- Upgrading of the Rhino house over the next few years (4-5yrs)

Yeah, I didn't go to the talk (Out with friends last night) but I saw the thing about the marmosets in a notice in Tropical World. Interesting to hear about the bird collection, Zupu also said the emus might move out as a result. I've heard that at some point in the future the white rhinos may move to the valley and indian rhinos move in their redeveloped house to fit in with the nearby Himalayan theme, but I don't know if this is still the plan

Indian Rhinos for Marwell that would be good to see lets keep our fingers crossed then

mooshu attacked her? oh, that's not good. in a future birth would you consider separating him from the calf?

Theyre very enquisitive. Two Sundays back they were putting the exhibit together and last Sunday they were there. I only saw two though.

Very cute, and a great addition to the Tropical House

Also, last Sunday the Hippo fields were being separated into three, presumably for the Tapirs :) Anyone know when the new Snow Leopards are arriving?

That's what I was wondering. I can wait till next Sunday, but I've got a feeling they're in the old sand monitor vivarium.

Hmm if you can remember what was in it, its at the front of the tropical house opposite where the poison dart frogs are housed atm. To the left as you first begin to walk round.

Opposite the frogs; yep definately the old sand monitor enclosure, it's the only one there big enough.

But I suppose the monitor always looked quite cramped in there, so I'm not too dissapointed.

Yeah, I remember the pythons from way back. I also remember boa constrictors or burmese pythons (I was only three at the time) in the enclosure that's housed chevotorian, red-footed tortoise and currently dwarf crocodile.

Huxley, the monitor in Heart of Africa is a Nile Monitor. I have some close-up shots of him in my gallery.

Well, it was a very nice python. :) A distinct memory that will always stay with me is staring right into the eyes of one of the pythons as it slithered across the window rail as it flicked it's tounge out. When you're only a toddler, it's something you certainly don't forget.

You may remember from my January update the arrival of four frilled lizards. Well the official site has confirmed they're now on show in Tropical World.

I have seen the four Frilled Lizards today and managed to photograph three of them. One partially displayed his frill. Please see my photos in the gallery.

Is Basil the possum still on show and if so where, are there any plans to find him a mate?

Mhale, I was at Marwell too today
Did you shelter from the rain? I stayed in Aridlands for ages. Wasnt too bad once it all cleared up. Got some good shots.

I was wondering that about Basil too, a shame. He was another of my favourite animals at the zoo, acknowledged by the time I was alone in Night Life and he crept up to me on ground level. Beautiful animal, but then I suppose the nocturnal house has been closed for a year if not more strangely. Even Bill Hall, the big brain of Marwell, didn't know why.

Yes, I did shelter from the rain! We were at Tiger Junction when the rain started coming down quite heavy, so we decided to head for Leopard Lookout where we watched Akin climbing all over his enclosure. We then headed for Into Africa and watched the giraffes eating, by which time it had all blown over. It was so windy at times that I couldn't even keep my umbrella up!! Still, we had a great time (even though we already visited yesterday). We saw Wendy and Lola outside which was great as we have only seen Lola inside each time we've visited before. Also saw the frilled lizards for the first time and got my first ever shots of the cusimanses :D

Zupu, at what sort of time are the brazillian tapirs due to arrive? My oryx club meeting's on Sunday and I'd like to know if they'll have arrived by then.

Aww. I took loads of pictures of Lola today. She looked quite happy bounding around outside and running in circles around her mum. I notice the third Hippo's moved on *sniff* but the work on the Hippo field is further along so the tapirs should be around sometime soon. One of the Tigers jumped up at the window quite a few times and made the small crowd around him jump, lol. I took a really nice shot of him looking straight at the camera but it wont let me upload it =[ And I know what you mean about the wind. I was standing at the door of Into Africa and the wind coming down from the Congo Buffalo/Bongo house was really strong. I was in Into Africa too during the worst part. I couldnt stay in Aridlands, someone had egg sandwhiches lol

I counted two more frilled lizards than last time. Any update on how the fifth and final frilled lizard is shaping up?
