The northern white-cheeked Nomascus leucogenys is Critically Endangered, where the buff or southern yellow-cheeked gibbon Nomascus gabriellae is Endangered. Does it matter that much ..., nog because all gibbon species of the genus Nomascus in Vietnam (5 species) are between ENDANGERED or CRITICALLY ENDANGERED.

I may sound smug, but that is further from the real issues ..., all face the same threats from people living off the forests in IndoChina (in this case central and south Vietnam and central Cambodia). As the species do not normally take up a huge amount of space ..., it could be possible to step away from just trying to secure sustainability in the 3 afore-mentioned gibbon species.

On April 1st, it was announced that the zoo transferred a (0.1) collared brown lemur named Flo to Lemur Conservation Foundation in Florida.

On June 25th, the zoo announced they are renovating the Safari Canyon Theater area, including the construction of a new exhibit for their prehensile-tailed porcupine.

Recently, the zoo announced the arrival of (1.0) Kapok and (0.1) Millie, a mother-son pair of Northern White-Cheeked Gibbons. (a new species for the zoo, as far as I’m aware?!)

The two apes came from Zoo Miami, and are now on exhibit with the zoo’s orangutans.
